The Declaration begins:
“As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.
Coming from both the left and right, and around the world, we have devoted our careers to protecting people. Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings, and deteriorating mental health—leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.
Keeping these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.”
Doctors and scientists around the world quickly began adding their signatures and by the end of the first week, 20,000 individuals co-signed the declaration. To-date, that number has grown to over 100,000.
Google & Co. saw this movement growing and challenging their “trust the science” narrative and began censoring the information from ordinary users.
“Tech giant Google has decided that the view of these scientists should be covered up. Most users in English-speaking countries, when they google ‘Great Barrington Declaration’, will not be directed to the declaration itself but to articles that are critical of the declaration – and some that amount to little more than smears of the signatories.” – Spiked
Then came Reddit’s censorship:
“The reasons listed for the declaration’s removal are also unclear. Reddit’s content policy shows no clear guidelines for the removal of content such as the Great Barrington Declaration.
The explanation given from the moderators of r/COVID19
“Posts and, where appropriate, comments must link to a primary scientific source: peer-reviewed original research, pre-prints from established servers, and research or reports by governments and other reputable organisations. Please do not link to YouTube or Twitter.
News stories and secondary or tertiary reports about original research are a better fit for r/Coronavirus.”
The website features an original statement from three of the world’s leading epidemiologists advocating for a drastically different approach to the prevailing policy response to Covid-19. It has over 25,000 signatures including thousands of other public health experts. It is literally a piece of history and the moderators believe it should be viewed as a “news story or tertiary report” meant for the more general channel.”
